Safe Net – Terms of Use

The Safe Net Service includes the functionalities described below and operates when used on the Yettel mobile network via the Internet and Net APN access points.

Protection

Safe Net is based on DNS technology and includes the following services for all protected devices:
  • Protection against malware, phishing, and botnet attacks by restricting access to compromised websites on the Internet;
  • Assistance in protecting against malicious software used by unauthorized parties to damage or misuse Customer data and/or programs, by preventing access to websites that distribute such software and limiting their ability to connect to your systems after the Service is installed;
  • The option to restrict Internet access for children and young people by blocking specific websites based on profiles and content categories, maintaining allow-lists and block-lists for individual approval or blocking of websites, and introducing limits on Internet browsing time.

Important: The described functionalities are based on domain names (domains and/or subdomains). It is not possible to protect a full URL address (such as domain/path).

Safe Net functionalities:

  • The Safe Net Service provides filtering of malicious websites based on domain reputation. The Service identifies and blocks malicious websites that fall into categories such as malware, phishing, and botnets.
  • Anti-Malware – This functionality provides protection for subscriber devices against threats or attacks by malicious software such as adware, spyware, and any other malicious software.
  • Anti-Phishing – This functionality protects Customers from fraudulent websites, which are often perfect replicas of legitimate websites and cannot be detected by the human eye.  Protection in this case is implemented by detecting fraudulent emails and blocking phishing websites.
  • Anti-Botnet – A botnet is a group of devices connected to the Internet, each of which runs one or more attacks against other devices. Botnets can be used to carry out distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, steal data, send spam, and enable an attacker to access a device and its connection. In this way, the attacker can control a network of devices using command-and-control software and thereby capture the end user’s device into a so-called botnet network, which is then used for further attacks. The word “botnet” is a combination of the words “robot” and “network” and is typically used with a negative or malicious connotation. The Anti-Botnet functionality automatically generates a botnet check when a Customer browses a website.  If a risk is detected, Anti-Botnet sends a warning message back to the subscriber’s device. The most common solution against botnets is the use of CAPTCHA codes, which determine through a code-entry test whether the request originates from a human or a machine.
  • A dedicated functionality enables filtering of access to web content. It is used for parental control and content control for small and medium-sized enterprises, where the Subscriber can block undesirable Internet content belonging to specific categories (e.g., social media, pornography, games, drugs, and/or other content).
  • Downtime – Usually used for parental control purposes; the Subscriber can define when Internet access is allowed.
  • Reporting – multiple reports (personal or network-level) are available immediately after the Subscriber starts using the Service.

Warranty

With the Safe Net Service, YETTEL and the software manufacturer ensure security in accordance with the applicable state of the art and, in part, within the scope of delivery depending on the purchased service or operating system. YETTEL strives to achieve a high level of availability of its services. As a supplement to the existing contractual terms between YETTEL and the Customer, YETTEL cannot assume any liability to ensure that individual security functions can provide absolute protection.

In addition, YETTEL assumes no liability:
  • For uninterrupted and flawless operation, quality, and continuous availability of the services and their individual functionalities;
  • For flawless operation of the services on all end devices and in combination with all hardware and software components, as well as operating systems;
  • For ensuring that attacks, third-party access, or malware do not otherwise negatively affect the use of other services or cause other damage to the Customer;
  • For proper operation on devices not purchased from YETTEL or not included on the list of supported devices.

Liability

YETTEL cannot assume any liability if damage occurs or if undesirable websites are accessible on the protected device despite installed and updated software on the protected device. YETTEL excludes any liability - for example, for damage in the form of data loss or any lost profits or consequential damages - to the extent permitted by law. YETTEL bears no liability for damage resulting from unlawful use of its services or use that violates the terms of the Subscriber Agreement. YETTEL bears no liability if the provision of the service is partially limited or impossible due to force majeure. In particular, power outages and the presence of malware (e.g., virus attacks) are considered force majeure.

Due to the fact that malicious software is constantly evolving, the Safe Net Service does not provide absolute, 100% protection against all existing and future malware. However, notwithstanding this fact, the Safe Net Service provides the highest level of protection that can reasonably be expected from other comparable services available on the market. This is because there is no product or service that can protect a user 100% from malicious threats unless the user is not present on the Internet at all times.

The Safe Net Service is intended to warn the Subscriber of detected threats from harmful websites and to hinder unauthorized third-party access to the Subscriber’s data network, but it does not ensure complete security and protection of the Subscriber on the Internet. YETTEL assumes no liability for malfunctioning or reduced performance of the Safe Net Service due to the actions of third parties or due to failure of the Subscriber’s device operating system or Internet connection not caused by YETTEL. YETTEL is not liable for damage caused by the Subscriber themselves as a result of their own settings or subsequent changes to Service settings not performed by YETTEL.

If Customers have malware installed on their computer or phone (installed via USB or SD card or in any other way), they will be protected if they use the original DNS service settings defined by Yettel. If Customers attempt to access the Internet directly by entering IP addresses of web domains into the browser, the Service will not operate and will not provide protection, and Yettel bears no responsibility for providing the Service. Safe Net provides end users with DNS-based protection when the Customer initiates access to a website on the Internet, but it does not provide protection if an external attacker attempts to connect to the Customer’s devices (based on malware previously installed via USB/SD card or in any other way) by exploiting any existing vulnerability (e.g., malware on the Customer’s device).

  • To access the Service, the Customer must have an active Internet connection on the Yettel network;
  • Prior to registration, Customers will familiarize themselves with the Terms of Use of the Service on the Yettel website, where, upon activating the Service, the Customer simultaneously accepts the Terms of Use of the Safe Net Service;
  • Yettel processes Customers’ personal data in the manner and in accordance with the Privacy Notice when using the “Safe Net” Service, available at: https://www.yettel.rs/sr/o-yettelu/safe-net-obavestenje-o-privatnosti.

  • Depending on the tariff plan, Customers will be able to activate the Service free of charge via the app or the Yettel web portal;
  • Yettel bears no liability if Internet traffic is charged, or if the Customer uses any other form of Internet access, and has not previously activated the Service properly;
  • Internet traffic means the continuous flow of data traffic required for active use of the Service;
  • Yettel reserves the right, for the purpose of troubleshooting, maintenance, construction, or service overload, to temporarily partially or fully suspend or reduce the quality of Service use;

Service delivery effectiveness

Customers of the Safe Net Service will not be protected in the following cases, as Yettel does not guarantee the effectiveness of Service delivery if Customers bypass Yettel Service settings that ensure proper operation of the Safe Net Service:

  • If DNS settings are changed so that DNS settings other than the default ones provided by Yettel are used.
  • Use of a VPN that hides all browsing activity, including DNS requests for Internet access.
  • Use of a web proxy or similar solution, where it is possible to access a web proxy page and from there connect to any other content. In such cases, the end user requests only the web proxy domain from DNS, while that proxy server internally resolves all other requests using whatever DNS it applies. Likewise, Yettel does not guarantee Service operation if Apple Private Relay is used.
  • When content is downloaded from a legitimate server (e.g., a file-sharing website) or from email, FTP, or other services, if the content is infected.
  • When a legitimate website is compromised and only a specific part of the website hosts malicious content. For example, WordPress websites are often affected by vulnerabilities that allow malicious actors to add content unknown to the owner if the server is not regularly updated. This may enable them to host phishing websites on what are typically small business websites. This is a very common case in phishing-related fraud. In such cases, the main website location will not be categorized as malware and blocked unless the main part of the website is affected.
  • When Service Customers access websites directly using IP addresses, as these are not validated by any DNS solution.
  • If Customers use Apple Private Relay.
  • During use of the Safe Net Service, it is possible to connect to legitimate domains on all ports. Malicious

During use of the Safe Net Service, it is possible to connect to legitimate domains on all ports. Malicious domains will display a blocked page to the end user only on standard ports; this logic also applies to all other protocols, e.g., FFTP/SFTP, SSH, cPanel, IMAP, SMTP, WHM, etc. When communication occurs via protocols operating on non-standard ports, feedback indicating a malicious domain will not be displayed but will instead result in a failed connection.

Use, activation, and deactivation:

  • Activation/deactivation of the Service is performed by the end user via the Yettel app.
  • For Postpaid Customers, the promotional period lasts three months, with the first month counted as the month in which the Service is activated. Each Customer may have the promotional period only once; after the promotional period expires, Customers are charged for each subsequent month until the subscription is canceled.
  • Certain Subscribers, depending on the tariff plan, may use the Service free of charge.
  • The activated add-on is automatically renewed each month. The Customer may cancel the add-on at any time via the Yettel mobile or web app.
  • For Prepaid Customers, the promotional period is 90 days, and the Service is charged after the 90th day and provided for the following 30 days. Each subsequent extension period of Service provision is 30 days and is charged at the start of Service provision. The Customer may cancel the Service during the 30-day Service usage period.
  • All changes and Terms of Use of the Service will be published on yettel.rs.

Liability and use of the Safe Net Service:

  • Yettel d.o.o. will not provide the software manufacturer with Customers’ personal data;
  • The Terms of Use of the Service, including the app, are provided within the owner’s app, and upon activation, the Customer is obliged to review and accept them.
