5G available in major cities and popular tourist areas

Yettel announced the official launch of its 5G network, bringing ultra-fast mobile data speeds, significantly reduced latency, and the ability to connect a vast number of devices simultaneously to customers.

"Starting today, Yettel customers will see the 5G icon appear on their phones, and we’re extremely proud of that. Our company transmitted the first mobile signal in Serbia 30 years ago, in December 1994. Today, we are launching the fifth generation of the Yettel mobile network, and our goal is to keep it reliable, stable, and with sufficient capacity for both customers and the business sector in Serbia. We continue to invest in innovation and infrastructure", said Mike Michel, Yettel’s Chief Executive Officer.

The new 5G network will enable:

Ultra-high data transfer speeds

Lower data transmission latency

Support for new digital services and IoT devices

Better experiences for gaming, video streaming, and remote work

Yettel uses new frequencies for 5G acquired in the latest spectrum auction. The company will broadcast 5G on two main frequencies: 700 MHz (Low Band) and 3.5 GHz (Mid Band – C-band). To experience the benefits of the new technology, Yettel users need a 5G-compatible device and must be within network coverage. Yettel’s 5G network is available in all major cities and tourist destinations in Serbia. As the network expands and develops, the 5G signal will cover an increasing portion of the population and territory.

Questions and Answers

What is 5G?

5G is the new generation of mobile networks that provides end users with higher data transfer speeds, lower latency, and a more stable connection compared to 4G technology.

What are the main advantages of the 5G network compared to 4G?

The 5G network offers significantly higher speeds, a more stable connection, and minimal interruptions during streaming or gaming, with the potential to be up to 10 times faster than 4G — in tests reaching up to 1.2 Gbps. Thanks to its greater capacity, it provides a reliable connection even in places with high concentrations of people, such as stadiums and shopping centers.

Is 5G safe for health?

5G technology uses non-ionizing signal emissions and fully complies with European and global standards. When planning the placement of base stations in the network, an environmental impact assessment is also conducted, ensuring full compliance with local and international regulations. The reference limit levels for electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phone base stations in Serbia are among the strictest in Europe.

How does 5G affect battery and device usage?

A slightly faster battery drain may be noticed due to higher speeds and more complex signals, but in practice, the difference is usually small and negligible for most users. 5G itself does not consume more data than 4G, but because of the higher speeds, users naturally stream more in high resolution or download larger content, which increases average monthly data usage. It does not affect other household devices.

Does 5G activate automatically when I am in a coverage area?

Yes, with a compatible device set up for 5G service and a USIM card, 5G activates automatically in the coverage area without any additional settings. The network will switch from 4G to 5G for better performance and revert to 4G when outside the coverage area. If you don’t see a change on your phone, check your device settings.

Does my phone support 5G?

It depends on the phone model — it must support 5G and the 700 MHz or 3.5 GHz (C-band) frequencies used by Yettel. Most newer models (from 2020 onwards), such as the Samsung Galaxy S series, iPhone 12+, Google Pixel 5+, or Yettel’s recommended devices (e.g., Motorola Moto G54 Power 5G, Honor Magic7 Lite), support 5G. Device specifications are available on the manufacturer’s website or on our website.

Do I need to change my SIM card to use 5G?

Most users who received their SIM card in the past few years already have a USIM. Users who do not yet have a USIM or are unsure can replace their card for free at any Yettel store. Using 5G does not incur additional costs or require changes to your plan.

Why doesn’t my 5G phone show a 5G signal even though I am in a coverage area?

Possible reasons include: temporary network maintenance (Yettel regularly upgrades base stations, which may cause interruptions), device settings (check if 5G is enabled in mobile data and that your device is not locked to 4G), or limited coverage at your exact location (e.g., indoors). Try restarting your phone, ensure the software is updated to the latest version, or contact Yettel support for diagnostics — often the solution is a software update or checking the signal.

How can I check 5G network coverage?

You can check the availability of the 5G signal at your location on the coverage map. Enter your address or city for precise results. The map is regularly updated as the network expands.
