Over 1,100 Children Participated in Digital Literacy Quizzes

Belgrade, June 13 - Over a thousand children received education through a digital literacy education and quiz organized by Yettel and Appworks, in cooperation with primary and secondary schools in Serbia. The top twenty-nine students were awarded at an event held at the Museum of Illusions.

Children in Serbia aged 9 to 17 most often use smartphones to access the internet – 86% of respondents do so daily, according to the EU Kids Online survey. Only 40% of participants say their parents or guardians provide them with advice on safe internet use, and 39% state that their parents help them when they encounter a problem in the digital world.

To educate students in primary and secondary schools about digital literacy and online safety, Yettel and Appworks created “MapApp” – an interactive educational poster on safe internet use. The poster, featuring a QR code, was distributed to 300 primary and 150 secondary schools across Serbia. By scanning the QR code with a mobile phone or tablet, students can access digital content within the MapApp.

“Yettel has been addressing the topic of children's internet safety and the development of digital literacy among children, parents, and teachers for ten years. Through this project, we aimed to educate children in an engaging and fun way, showing them that technology can be used for education, not just entertainment. We want to make them aware of the challenges they may encounter online and who they can turn to in such situations. Teachers can also use the poster to enrich their lessons,” said Marija Vujanić, Communications and Sustainability Director at Yettel.

Awards for Top Participants

In the second phase of the project, Appworks, supported by Yettel, organized an online quiz for students whose schools had the poster, as well as live quizzes in two primary and two secondary schools in Serbia. More than 5,300 children scanned the QR code on the poster, and 1,116 participated in the quizzes.

At the official award ceremony at the Museum of Illusions in Belgrade, valuable prizes were presented to the winners. After the official program, the Museum organized a special tour for all attendees focused on digital literacy and online safety.
