“Our Power. Our Planet” – Earth Day
Belgrade 22. April 2025. - Every year on April 22, we mark Earth Day. This year, under the slogan “Our Power. Our Planet,” the focus is on transitioning from fossil fuels to green energy. The United Nations has set a global target to triple renewable energy production by 2030.
This goal aligns with the recommendations of the International Energy Agency, which states that, by the end of this decade, it is necessary to increase renewable energy capacity by more than 11,000 gigawatts to keep the planet’s average temperature below the 1.5°C threshold compared to pre-industrial levels.
Considering that the energy sector accounts for 70% of the emissions that contribute to the greenhouse effect, renewable energy sources play a key role in combating climate change. By replacing coal, oil, and gas with sources like solar, wind, water, and geothermal energy, we directly impact climate stability, air quality, and public health.
In a time of accelerated climate change, resource depletion, and ecosystem degradation, raising awareness alone is no longer enough. Action is needed – and urgently.
That’s why Yettel is the first mobile network in Serbia to use 100% renewable electricity (Đerdap I Hydropower Plant) as of January 1, 2022. From January 1, 2024, we took it a step further, and now all Yettel facilities (head office, regional center, warehouse, and all shops) are powered entirely by renewable electricity.
